Glasswerks Boasts the Most Eco-Friendly Production of Double-Coated Colored Glass in the U.S. Market

Colorwerks Glass by Glasswerks

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sep 02, 2010 - SOUTH GATE, Calif. -- In an ongoing effort to introduce new glass products with environmental sustainability in mind, Glasswerks Inc., a leader in commercial and architectural glass fabrication, has added Colorwerks custom-colored glass to its growing menu of decorative glass offerings.

Colorwerks glass allows for limitless paint color customization, allowing designers to request, apply and correct glass color with accuracy. Paint coat customization is made possible through a specialized computer program designed to supervise paint mixing and adjust color levels with precision.

"We are pleased to be the first in the West Coast offering colored glass of this kind," says Ed Rosengrant, VP of Sales and Marketing at Glasswerks. "In California we are able to fabricate industry-leading glass and glazing products with a lower carbon footprint than our out-of-state counterparts, making Colorwerks the greenest alternative in double-coated colored glass in today's market."

Other green benefits of Colorwerks glass include:

  • Lead-free and isocyanate-free fabrication
  • Contribution towards LEED credits
  • Reduction of toxic outgassing through the heat curing process
  • Decrease in use of adhesives and mastics by applying fasteners

Colorwerks glass is achieved on the Glasswerks mirror conveyor line by back curtain coating PPG Starphire® Ultra Clear Glass, heating the paint layer for strengthening the material, followed by a secondary back coating, and then bonding both paint layers through a final heat-curing process.
