Tempered Glass

Tempered Glass

Tempered Glass is one of the most utilized and cost-effective architectural safety glass options available. For over six decades, we've built a business on perfecting an industry trade: Our fine-tuned thermal tempering process allows us to provide world-class high- performance glass at a very competitive price. What is Tempered Glass?

Fully-Tempered Glass is achieved when annealed float glass undergoes a specific thermal tempering process that includes uniformly heating the glass, typically at a furnace temperature of 1150° F (621° C), and then rapidly cooling or "quenching" the lite by blowing an even distribution of cool air simultaneously on both surfaces. This process creates outer layers of high compression at the surfaces and a compensating tension zone in the core of the glass lite.

This process of thermal manipulation both toughens the glass lite and significantly decreases the risk of injury during glass breakage. Due to its high compression levels, tempered glass shatters into many small, blunt pieces rather than breaking into large, sharp shards, which are most responsible for serious glass injuries. The thermal tempering process also renders the lite four times stronger than annealed float glass, and two times stronger than heat-strengthened glass--another type of heat-treated material. It is because of these properties that tempered glass satisfies safety codes set by American National Standards Institute(ANSI) Z97.1 and Consumer Products Safety Commission16 CFR 1201, which mere heat-strengthened glass do not fulfill.

Our six decades of mastery in glass tempering allows us to fill the growing demand for our exceptional range of product lines:

We draw from years of experience to maximize efficiency and custom fabrication expertise, which is why we can offer over seventy variations of glass sizes and types in both annealed and tempered options, without much difference in price for either alternative.
