Laminated glass is the glazing solution of choice when safety and noise reduction are priorities. At Glasswerks, we offer a wide range of laminated glass options for customers in Los Angeles, San Diego, throughout Southern California, Hawaii, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Laminated glass is constructed using a combination of high heat and intense pressure, fusing two panes, known as “lites,” together with one or more interlayers made of polyvinyl butyral (PVB). This results in a glass material that has increased structural integrity and enhanced acoustical performance when compared with traditional monolithic glass.

Glasswerks has state-of-the-art capabilities and can handle laminated annealed sizes up to 130″ x 300″, laminated tempered up to 130″ x 268″, and even bent laminated up to 130″ x 188″!

Safety and Sound Control

As a safety glazing material, laminated glass can help minimize the risks of injury or property damage in the event of breakage. When laminated glass is shattered, fragments are held in place by their bond with the PVB interlayer, and this can even prevent the entire lite from falling out of the opening. This makes laminated glass the ideal choice for safety in overhead and sloped glazing applications. Beyond its inherent safety features, laminated glass also offers far better sound control performance than monolithic glass. The PVB interlayer has inherent viscoelasticity, meaning it absorbs sound energy as it travels through the laminated glass. This cuts down on overall sound transmission, helping isolate the environments separated by the glass.

Aesthetic Options and Specifications

At Glasswerks, we utilize the Vanceva System to add color and creative options to this already-versatile material. By mixing and matching a palate of base colors, you can create a nearly endless variety of hues to match any project. Check out the Vanceva Color Studio to try out various color combinations for yourself. Interlayers are available with three levels of white transparency: 7%, 65%, and 85%. We offer five main types of interlayer, including SentryGLas, Saflex, Vanceva, clear, and white. Interlayers come in varying thicknesses: .03″, .06″, and .09″ for PVB and .06″, .09″, and .1″ for Sentry interlayers. We are capable of producing custom laminated glass products, including bent glass, with overall thicknesses ranging from ¼” to 1″, and we are able to meet a range of quality standards, including CPSC16, CFR1201, NASI Z97.1, and ASTM C1172.
