Good for Buildings. Better for Birds.
Up to one billion birds die each year in the U.S. from glass and building collisions — a growing concern for architects, developers, and building owners alike. Glasswerks fabricates bird-friendly glass solutions that apply high-visibility ceramic ink patterns directly to the primary surface of the glass, breaking up confusing reflections and allowing birds to recognize and avoid the threat. Our bird safety glass is available on clear and Starphire glass, can contribute to LEED Pilot Credit 55: Bird Collision Deterrence, and comes in six standard patterns or fully custom designs developed with our in-house team. Whether you're meeting local bird-safe building codes or simply building with the environment in mind, we have a solution that fits your project without compromising design.
Bird safety patterns from Glasswerks are applied using our Digital Images process with an ultra-durable ceramic-based ink directly to the #1 surface of the glass:
- 6 standard patterns available for quick specification (patterns shown below)
- Custom patterns available — speak with our in-house designer to create a pattern tailored to your project
- Etched glass pattern options for a more subtle aesthetic
- All patterns satisfy the industry-standard 2×4 rule
- Available on clear and Starphire glass, with Starphire recommended for optimal clarity and visibility
Glasswerks bird safety glass is designed to meet bird-friendly building guidelines, local ordinances, and sustainability goals:
- Follows the 2×4 rule — vertical elements spaced no more than 4″ apart, horizontal elements spaced no more than 2″ apart, preventing birds from attempting to fly through openings
- Can contribute to LEED Pilot Credit 55: Bird Collision Deterrence
- Eco-friendly solution that reduces bird fatalities without chemical treatments
- Suitable for projects pursuing bird-safe building certifications
- Helps building owners and developers meet bird-safe ordinances increasingly adopted across major U.S. cities
