Layers That Inspire Strength and Clarity
When a project requires glass that protects, performs, and endures, Glasswerks delivers. Laminated glass is the glazing solution of choice when safety and noise reduction are priorities. Constructed by fusing two glass lites together under high heat and pressure with one or more polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayers, laminated glass offers increased structural integrity and enhanced acoustics in a wide range of configurations.

Laminated glass is engineered to minimize injury and property damage in the event of breakage. When shattered, fragments remain bonded to the PVB interlayer — preventing dangerous fallout and keeping the lite intact within the opening.
Ideal applications include:
- Overhead and sloped glazing
- Skylights and atriums
- Blast mitigation
- Hurricane impact
- Security and bullet-resistant glazing
- Any opening where glass failure poses a safety risk
The PVB interlayer does more than hold glass together — its viscoelastic properties actively absorb sound energy as it passes through the pane, significantly reducing transmission between environments.
Laminated glass is the preferred choice for:
- Street-facing facades in high-traffic areas
- Hotel rooms, offices, and residential interiors
- Recording studios and healthcare environments
- Airports
- Any project where acoustic comfort is a priority
Laminated glass can be combined with solar control interlayers or coatings to manage heat gain, glare, and UV transmission — without sacrificing clarity or aesthetics.
Key solar performance benefits:
- Solar control: Reduces heat gain to improve occupant comfort and lower HVAC loads
- UV protection: Blocks a significant portion of ultraviolet radiation, protecting interiors, furnishings, and artwork from fading
- Glare reduction: Improves visual comfort in sun-exposed spaces
- Compatibility: Solar performance options can be combined with tinted, low-e, or Vanceva® color interlayers for a fully integrated glazing solution
Glasswerks provides are wide array of interlayer options to help get the most out of your laminated glass.
Available options include:
- Interlayer types: SentryGlas® Ionoplaste, PVBs, Saflex, Vanceva, Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU), Polycarbonate
- Interlayer transparency levels: 7%, 65%, and 80% white
Glasswerks utilizes the Vanceva® Color System to bring creative possibilities to laminated glass. By mixing and matching a palette of base colors, virtually any hue can be achieved to suit your project — and the Vanceva Color Selector Tool lets you explore combinations before you commit.
For applications where forced-entry resistance or enhanced security is required, laminated glass provides a meaningful upgrade over monolithic glazing. The interlayer resists penetration and holds the glass assembly together under repeated impact, maintaining a protective barrier and reducing the risk of dangerous shards even if the lite is compromised. Glasswerks fabricates high-performance laminated configurations to suit a range of security specifications — contact our team to discuss the requirements of your project.
