One Lite. Unlimited Potential.
Monolithic glass is the foundation of virtually every glazing application — a single lite of glass, cut and fabricated to precise specifications. At Glasswerks, we bring decades of fabrication expertise to every monolithic unit we produce. Whether it's a straightforward commercial storefront, a custom residential partition, or a complex architectural feature, our monolithic glass is processed to exacting standards for flatness, clarity, and edge quality. And because it's a single lite, it serves as the ideal starting point for our full range of value-added services — including lamination, tempering, GlassFX coatings, silkscreen printing, and spandrel finishes — making it one of the most adaptable products in our portfolio.
Monolithic glass is available in a range of substrate types to suit any performance or aesthetic requirement:
- Clear Glass — The industry standard for maximum light transmission and neutral appearance. Ideal for storefronts, interior partitions, and applications where clarity is the priority.
- Low-Iron Glass — Reduced iron content eliminates the greenish tint found in standard clear glass, delivering exceptional color neutrality. Preferred for high-end retail, art installations, and projects where true color rendering matters.
- Tinted Glass — Available in bronze, grey, green, and blue. Reduces solar heat gain and glare while adding aesthetic character to a façade.
- Reflective Glass — Offers privacy, solar control, and a bold exterior appearance suited to commercial curtainwall and storefront systems.
- Low-E Glass — Thin metallic coatings manage heat transfer and UV penetration, providing energy performance even in a single-lite application.
Monolithic glass is one of the most widely used glazing products across commercial and residential construction. Common applications include:
- Interior partitions and office fronts
- Storefronts and commercial entrances
- Shower enclosures and bath partitions
- Furniture and display cases
- Mirrors and decorative panels
- Spandrel and vision zones in curtainwall systems
- Framed and frameless railings
- Signage and graphic display panels
As a single-lite product, monolithic glass is compatible with virtually every value-added service we offer:
- Tempering — Heat-treated to meet safety glazing requirements per ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201. Breaks into small, blunt fragments rather than dangerous shards.
- Heat Strengthening — Increased strength over annealed glass with a break pattern closer to standard float. Commonly specified for spandrel applications.
- Silkscreen & Ceramic Frit Printing — Custom patterns, logos, and shading gradients fired permanently into the glass surface during tempering.
- GlassFX Coatings — Specialty surface treatments including anti-reflective, anti-microbial, and easy-clean options.
- Spandrel Finishes — Opaque ceramic or film-based finishes for vision/spandrel continuity in commercial façade systems.
- Edge Work — Seamed, flat ground, polished, beveled, and mitered profiles for framed, frameless, and decorative installations.
- CNC Cutting & Notching — Complex shapes and cutouts fabricated to tight tolerances for custom applications.
As the simplest glazing unit available, monolithic glass offers distinct advantages for both fabricators and installers:
- Cost-Effective — As the simplest glazing unit, monolithic glass delivers strong performance at a lower price point than laminated or insulated assemblies, making it the right choice when multi-lite construction isn’t required.
- Lightweight — A single lite is significantly lighter than laminated or insulated units, reducing load on framing systems and simplifying installation in weight-sensitive applications.
- Design Flexibility — Compatible with virtually every Glasswerks value-added process, monolithic glass adapts to the full range of commercial and architectural design requirements.
- Fast Turnaround — Simpler fabrication means shorter lead times, keeping your project on schedule.
- Wide Size Range — Available in a broad range of thicknesses and sizes to meet nearly any project specification.
