Glass That Belongs to the Community

Designed by Ruhnau Clarke Architects and completed in 2025, the Páxam Páxam Welcome Resource Center serves as a centralized hub for families navigating school enrollment and community support services for the San Bernardino City Unified School District. The project earned a 2026 CASH Award, recognizing excellence in California school facility design. The 60,000 square foot, three-story building consolidates 300 district employees under one roof at 746 North E Street in downtown San Bernardino.

The name itself carries meaning: Páxam Páxam is a Native American term meaning “Welcome” — a reflection of the center’s purpose to honor community, belonging, and shared partnership in education. That spirit of openness is written into the architecture, with floor-to-ceiling curtainwall glazing at the building’s main entry and expansive vision glass spanning all three stories of the primary facade. Glasswerks fabricated the architectural glass for this project, working hand-in-hand with our glazing partners at Golden State Glazing to bring Ruhnau Clarke’s design to life.

Our Scope of Work

The glass on this building had to do more than look right — it had to perform in San Bernardino’s demanding high-desert climate, managing solar heat gain while maintaining the open, light-filled quality the design called for. To meet those requirements, Glasswerks fabricated the curtainwall and facade glazing using Vitro’s Solarban® 90, one of the highest-performing solar control glasses available.

Solarban® 90 is a triple-silver-coated insulating glass unit that delivers an industry-leading solar heat gain coefficient while preserving exceptional visible light transmittance. That combination is exactly what a building like this demands: a welcoming, transparent face to the community without the thermal loads that can compromise occupant comfort and energy performance. The result is a facade that reads as open and inviting from the street while keeping interior environments comfortable and efficient year-round.

  • Supplied high-performance Vitro Solarban® 90 glass for the building’s curtainwall facade
  • Partnered with Golden State Glazing for coordinated delivery from fabrication through installation
  • Supported a project recognized with a 2026 CASH Award for outstanding school facility design

“”A civic building this visible in the community deserves glass that’s equally committed to its purpose — thermally, visually, and architecturally. We’re glad to have played a role in this one alongside Golden State Glazing.”
